We receive numerous letters
from all corners of the world, with requests from people wishing to
come out and do voluntary work with us. Many people contacting us
have fantastic references and backgrounds, others simply a great interest
and passion for the sharks. It would be very hard for us to choose
who can come and who cannot, especially since we have never met them.
We are a relatively small field team and it is important that the
persons coming out to do voluntary work for us can fit in and function
in the team. We have therefore worked out a system that has proven
to be very successful when choosing volunteers.
Once a person has been on a
membership expedition or a Student Educational Programme he/she is
entitled to apply to come and work for us on a voluntary basis. The
Expeditions are designed to train and educate the participating members
to a level of competence of a field assistant. During the course of
the membership expedition we will get a good opportunity to get to
know each and everyone individually, see how they handle teamwork,
take own initiatives, take interest in the work and activities, show
interest in learning from the lectures given etc. At the end of an
expedition we will then have a good idea of which members are suitable
to do work for us and carry their own responsibilities.
We have to take each voluntary request on merit, some requests
require work permits being issued.
We wish to thank
you for taking the time to read these pages, and we sincerely hope to
have you involved in our organisation in one way or another, in the
near future. We are doing our best to make a difference, but it is not
an easy task. Although we champion the shark, they are not our absolute
responsibility. They belong to our planet and are there for the responsibility
of us all. We would be honoured to be your tool and spokesperson on
behalf of the sharks.
In association with White Shark Projects
we now offer an exciting and life changing 14 day Student Educational
Program.
